Fr. Cyril Veliath is an Indian citizen, and a member of the Society of Jesus. He joined the Society of Jesus 1968, and was ordained a priest in 1982. Since 1974 he has been working in Japan, and right now he is the Professor of Indian Philosophy at the Faculty of Foreign Studies of Sophia University in Tokyo. He is the author of several articles and two books, namely the Mysticism of Ramanuja, and the Love Song. He has been involved in inter-religious dialogue, mostly with Hinduism, since his arrival in Japan, but since 2005 he has been officially appointed by the Society of Jesus as the person in charge of inter-religious dialogue with Buddhism, for the Jesuit Assistancy of East Asia and Oceania.
