Wavelength DEMUX

In the conventional AWG, the phase difference between adjuscent waveguide is obtained from the waveguide length difference. On the other hand, in the variable index arrayed waveguide, the phase difference is obtained from the refractive index difference, that is the difference of waveguide thickness. Hence wavelength demultiplexing is possible in the variable index arrayed waveguide. The following figure show the structure of demux integrated variable index arrayed waveguide, slab waveguide where input and output ports are placed on the rowland circle.

We have successfully demonstrated 4 wavelenght demux with 20nm space in the 16 array waveguides, 10mm length of array, and 1.3% relative refractive index difference between both side of the array waveguide.
